Washed-out landscaping
Photo to come
What it looks like
- Mulch and soil washed out in a line under the roof edge.
- Bare trenches or exposed roots in the beds along the house.
- Plants beaten down in the same spot every storm.
What causes it
- Water going over the front of a clogged gutter comes off in a concentrated line and lands in the same spot, every storm.
- A downspout without an extension empties straight onto the bed.
What it leads to
- Gutters are a home’s silent guardians, channeling rainwater away to protect foundations, siding and landscaping.
- When they overflow, the water erodes the soil along the house — and erosion at the foundation leads to basement leaks.
How we fix it
- Keep the debris out. The Valor Gutter Guard keeps leaves, needles and nests out of the gutter, so there’s nothing to clog.
- Downspouts configured to your house, discharging away from the foundation.
- Seamless .032 aluminum gutters, pitched toward the outlet, with enough downspouts for a hard rain. See gutters.
Questions and answers
Why is the mulch washing out under my roof edge?
Usually an overflowing gutter. Water going over the front of a clogged gutter comes off in a concentrated line and lands in the same spot every storm, washing the bed out.
